Our youth program is primarily centered on Lillian Hoffar Park and Blue Heron Park. In 2023, we jointly initiated a program with Mary Winspear Centre, Parkland High, North Saanich Middle School, and the District of North Saanich to tackle the extensive ivy in Blue Heron Park. For numerous years we have had Parkland School and North Saanich Middle School students removing ivy in Lillian Hoffar Park. In 2018-2019 we had Deep Cove students working in Denham Till Park and the Tatlow-Clayton Road trail. We have also had the 10th Tsartlip scouts work in Quarry Park.
We have employed numerous students from local universities over the years to conduct ecological studies on the parks, and to prepare associated reports. Topics include soils, tree measurement, re-occurrence of invasive species, mapping, etc. We have a close working relationship with the University of Victoria's Restoration of Natural Systems Program.
We have partnered with the Sidney By-the-Sea Rotary Club in multiple years where many of their members came en masse to our events.
A group of FNSP volunteers visited Tod Inlet to assist the PEPÁḴEṈ HÁUTW̱ restoration group. The group is conducting invasives removal and restorative planting at the former Butchart cement plant site and within the former employees’ village. Tod Inlet is also a past First Nations village location and consequently of considerable importance in terms of restoration.
FNSP has collaborated with Peninsula Streams and Shorelines in Reay Creek Park, and the Capital Regional District in Horth Hill Park. FNSP is a member of the Saanich Peninsula Environmental Coalition.
